Journeys of Exploration at Blackrock Castle in Cork
Now here is something different and entertaining to do when you take a trip into Cork City this summer (while, of course, staying at Redbarn Beach!)
Blackrock Castle Observatory are running a family-friendly summer show in addition to their science centre exhibitions. It’s called Journeys of Exploration and will run for the month of July until the end of August.
Along with Snatch Comedy, four hundred years of time travelling tales are being told through a exciting storytelling adventure in a highly interactive show around the Castle grounds.
You can explore the defended treasure of Blackrock Castle. See the safe harbour she provides to all ships that are welcomed to the City of Cork – and how can she might defend the unwelcome ones maybe? The kids can meet the merchant princes of Cork and wathc how the story develops as they slip through the fabric of time and space into Cosmos at the Castle today.
Here’s a taste of whats to come!
“Hans Sloan is an explorer and merchant from the age of adventurers, when people travelled the world in ships at high risk, and much of the planet had never been seen by civilised man. He is caught in a mysterious whirlpool and dumped in the present, luckily in the same place as he departed. He meets a scientist, Niamh Shaw, who asks him what year he is from… but he’s forgotten! Together, they have to use a scientific approach to find out what year exactly he set sail. Along the way they tell each other what they know of the castle’s history, from its earliest days right up to the present… and beyond!”
Tickets are €10 each or €35 for a family of four and also includes entrance into our science centre and a planetarium show. 4-year old’s and under are free!
Shows take place from July 1 at 13:00 or 15:00 Wednesday to Sunday.
