The beach and hotel was only a 2min walk away. The Leisure Centre had a lovely indoor pool, the hotel had cinema nights for the kids each evening which they loved, we could not fault anything the staff were so nice and great with the kids, I would like to thank Therese and her team for a great time.”

Forget about a car, the location of the nearest bus stop or train station – you can arrive at the Quality Hotel in Youghal by bike – that is, if you are as enthusiastic as sister’s Bridie O’Sullivan and Teresa Haggett!
Bridie hails from Cobh and Teresa lives in London and they have just fulfilled their annual dream, and had a mini holiday at the same time, by cycling from Cobh to the Quality Hotel in Youghal. They have been doing this, every year, since the hotel opened over 10 years ago.
These two ladies are amazing; they visit the hotel every September by cycling from Cobh to Youghal. However, after checking into the Hotel, it’s not yet time to put the legs up as Bridie and Teresa then walk 4 km along the beach to Youghal – and 4 km back! This is followed by a lengthy swim of 10 lengths in the 20 metre pool – WOW! The ladies then forget about exercise for rest of that day and relax with a well deserved dinner, followed by a beverage in the bar later in the evening.
The following morning it’s all action again after the ladies arise. Following a full hearty breakfast, they then cycle the 30 miles back to Cobh!
Inspirational Ladies – well done!
Teresa travels home from London every year to do this trip with her sister and they are both looking forward to their trip again next September – as the staff at the Quality Hotel also look forward to welcoming them.

Quality Hotel Youghal staff to the fore in the Sean Kelly Tour of Waterford!
This past weekend saw two members of the staff at Quality Hotel Youghal competing in the Sean Kelly Tour of Waterford. The event took place in on Saturday and Sunday 24th and 25th August.
If there is one way to keep fit, cycling is a sure bet – and one of the hardest disciplines too with some serious training required. Our chef, Robert Farrell, and Jerome Glavin, who works in the bar, both took up the challenge over the weekend and flew the flag for Quality Hotel Youghal. Well done to both and congratulations on a great race – we are all proud of you!
The wonderfully vigorous mackerel fish have been a very important part of
Youghal’s Heritage and way of life for hundreds of years. Its very unique
that they actually come into the town itself and right up to the quay walls
in the town centre. Fishing for mackerel is a popular tourist attraction.
“In years gone they by were vital to the economy because everybody made a
little money from them” comments Kevin Murphy, a local fisherman. For locals
and regular visitors to Youghal, Mackerel fishing is an event where young
and old, spectators and fishermen, boats people and terraferma people alike
gather along the waterfront to land fresh and tasty mackerel. Memories of
the mackerel from times past include the fish jumping onto the quay at the
height of the season and as we go to press kids knee high in the water
scooping them up with their hands to land them on the smaller town centre
To celebrate the wonder that is Mackerel a voluntary group would like to
“reel” you in to join in a fun festival. The festival is in its 3rd year and
is going from strength to strength with lots of free events for all the
family. A big part of the programme is two days of local chefs preparing
mackerel dishes outdoors in the town centre and offering tastings for the
general public. Previous festivals saw the town centre filled with delicious
aromas as barbeques and open air fires cooked mackerel tickled by a
wonderful variety of spices and herbs. There will appealing fish dishes,
wonderfully garnished, to savour and recipes to take away.
The festival, running from Friday 30th August to Sunday 1st September, will
be a fun-filled affair with the delicious food trail, plenty of live music
and family entertainment , childrens amusements and a market of local foods.
Beginning Friday 30th August from 7.30 p.m, participating restaurants will
offer the free mackerel starters and you can expect many specials on the
night. Join the delicious Fish Trail at local restaurants where the fish
starters will be presented in mouth watering diplays.
Saturday 31st August at 2.30 p.m. the opening ceremony commences with Tim
Tim has been the travel and destination dining columnist as Man In A
Suitcase for the last three years. Previous to that he was a restaurant
reviewer. He written about dining and hospitality for many publications. Tim
was one of this year’s Hospitality Heroes at Ireland’s largest industry
conference where he was invited to debate restaurants trends with Dylan
McGrath. The Opening Ceremony will be followed by announcing the winners of
the ‘Name the Mackerel Competition’ for kids who are helping to pick a great
fun name for the Mackerel Mascot who will appear at the Mackerel Festival
Saturday and Sunday there will be some fishy goings on with the barbeques on
Market Square The barbeques will be fired up and the mackerel will be
flavourful and juicy. You can enjoy a range of sweet and savoury goodies
from the local food stalls in the square.
Delicious home baking, freshly baked bread and savouries, local honey,
home-made Ice-cream, hand picked salad leaves and tasty summer salads, hot
popcorn and lots of treats.
Family fun on both days includes Puppet Shows, Kiddies Amusements, balloon
making and face painting and a visit from Perkie Bear. On Saturday, on the
water there will be the Aquatrek Sailing Competition and, for land lubbers,
the Volleyball Competition. On Sunday kids can make creative pottery pieces
on the Potter’s Wheels and decorate each piece to take home. Great music
throughout the weekend will include bands live on the town centre stage. The
committee have thought of everything and have secured alternative venues in
the event of poor weather. Looks like Youghal is the place to be this year.
Robert Heffernan wins gold in the Men’s World Championship 50 km race walk final in Moscow
What a great world champion he is – well done Rob!
The staff at Quality Hotel in Youghal all send their congratulations on a tremendous win in Moscow this morning. Rob is a regular visitor to Quality Hotel in Youghal and everyone at Redbarn is absolutely delighted with this fantastic news.
The squad had a chance to relax at Quality Youghal. They stayed in several of our holiday homes. Staff and guests alike were all thrilled by the visit and the team were also delighted with their stay.
The squad had a chance to use the facilities in the hotel and the Pool and Leisure Centre was a perfect spot for a relaxing swim and a bit of banter.
What actually was the Amazing Munster Race and what happened ! Well six groups of players were dropped off around Munster at different locations on Wednesday, they then had to make their own way to Youghal – arriving last night.
Along the way the squad had to carry out a number of different tasks, relying on the hospitality of local communities in return for some coaching tips, photographs and autographs.
It was fantastic for us all to get the opportunity to meet the lads – and we would love to see them come back again soon!
Our Kids Camp has something for everyone and is open to everyone too! Non-residents and non-members of Club Vitae at the Quality Hotel are all welcome to join the fun and great activities on offer. Included in the line-up are swimming games, arts and crafts, tag rugby, soccer, hockey, mini Olympics and lots of great beach activities right outside the door on Redbarn’s Blue Flag Beach.
Hugely popular with the kids on those rainy evenings is the Movie Cinema at Quality Hotel, with screenings every day for different age groups. The Kids Camp runs daily from 11 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. with an evening Club from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. during the summer holidays, as well as Midterm breaks, Easter and Christmas. Packed lunches are available and children must be 4 years and over to avail of the camp. Pre-booking is necessary to guarantee spaces, and for families with smaller kids, a crèche is available.
